The Ulefone X2 is the company’s entry-level rugged smartphone, and it supports 3G connectivity. It is easy to notice that the Armor X2 is a rugged smartphone, its design reveals that. Overall, our initial impressions of this phone were good. It’s solidly made, has a large and colorful screen, an excellent specification and many genuinely useful features.

However, the angled nature of the keyboard, when attached to the screen magnetically, does have a little give to it, because there’s nothing supporting the keyboard between the screen and the front edge. This creates a slight natural sag, and the Alcantara surface flexes in just a little when you press on a key. It’s not pronounced, and it doesn’t ruin the typing experience, but it is noticeable. Unlike the keys, the touchpad is generously sized relative to the whole keyboard, and it tracks very nicely.

Also, and we’re curious why Ulefone mentions this, the phone can cope with being immersed in a meter of concrete for 24 hours. Should you end up in concrete for a day, as happens to some unfortunate people, whether or not your phone will survive is probably the least of your concerns…

It’s worth noting that the keyboard is designed to be fully functional, but compact. One shortcoming is that the screen opens to a single angle. It’s not really adjustable. Either the Gemini PDA is open or it’s not.
