For businesses large and small, the potential for transformation extends well beyond the four walls. Bruce Stubbs, director of supply chain marketing at Honeywell Safety and Productivity Solutions, says holistic scanning and mobile computing solutions provide visibility across the DC, as well as upstream to manufacturers and downstream to customers.
The British manufacturer behind Cat-branded phones is the Bullitt Group, which has also turned out devices under the JCB, Kodak, and most recently Land Rover brands. Apart from a wealth of experience in the smartphone industry, the Bullitt Group has found success by working closely with brand partners, listening to customer feedback, and incorporating it to develop devices with thoughtful features that deliver what people are asking for.
One of those factors might be that the screen resolution of the Kong 3 is only 1,440 x 720, and not the higher resolutions that we’ve seen with 5.99-inch phablets. That’s less than half the number of pixels of a phone with a 2,160 x 1,080 resolution display, and that makes a huge difference to how agile the phone feels.
Driving both trends, Sellars says, is the operational intelligence that image-based scanning and 2D bar codes provide. With laser-based scanning of one-dimensional bar codes, the only data collected is whether a code was properly read or not. If the trigger sensor went off but didn’t read, maybe a label is missing or the laser was looking for chocolate when presented with vanilla, but Sellars says the binary pass/fail feedback doesn’t lend itself to a quick and effective diagnosis.
No person shall operate a vehicle without giving his full time and attention to the operation of such a vehicle.
Palm vein scans are seen as more accurate and secure than other biometric methods such as iris, face, fingerprint or voice recognition. (Fujitsu has sold vein-scanning technology – first commercialized by Hitachi in 2005 – for around a decade, and includes banks, universities and healthcare providers among its customers.)
While Windows was previously the de facto standard for mobile devices in the manufacturing and warehousing space, Microsoft’s decision to end support for legacy platforms like Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5, Windows Embedded Compact 7 and Embedded 8 has opened the door to even greater adoption of the Android operating system. Microsoft will stop supporting those Windows platforms after 2020, so we expect that more companies will begin the platform transition over the next 12 months.
One of the things that’s sacrificed in most PC tablets is battery life. Lenovo quotes “more-than-all-day” battery life of nine-and-a-half hours, but the reality is the ThinkPad X1 Tablet lasts only around seven hours between charges. That was with the “Better battery life” power setting active, word processing in Typora, browsing in Chrome, using Nextgen reader, some image editing in Affinity Photo and lots of email in Microsoft Mail.
To make imaging more user-friendly, the device leverages artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR). Typically, Sanchez says, it takes a lot of training to acquire a quality body image without much difficulty — but takes only minutes with iQ.
Produced by a company called Fabtek, the Work Boy was a weird peripheral aimed at turning the handheld into an office tool. It came with a keyboard, along with software for a clock, day planner, and currency converter. The Work Boy was never released and that’s for the best. At $80, it would have cost as much as a Game Boy.
As you might guess, the Surface Go isn’t a killer at 3D-accelerated applications, either. No detachable tablet is, really, as professional or hobby-grade 3D readiness is the realm of gaming laptops, mobile workstations, or the uncommon general-use laptop that includes a discrete graphics card. None of the Go’s competitors is 3D- or gaming-ready, worth keeping in mind if you work with 3D models or rendering and were hoping to use a device like this while on the move.
As mentioned above, ease of use is a major factor in the selection of an insulin delivery device. Patients no longer need to self-administer numerous daily finger stick tests to monitor their blood glucose levels. Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) that produce dynamically-updated readings are now widely available, and many of these can connect to mobile devices, obsoleting the need for a handheld monitor.
