If you still have a Palm OS PDA that works, all the stuff at https://palmpowerups.com/ is now freeware.
Some of the demo units Planet Computer is showing off at CES are early prototypes, so the model I tested with Linux had a pretty sticky keyboard that made typing tedious. But after a few seconds getting used to the tiny keys, I found the keyboard on the Android model to be pretty responsive. You might not be able to touch type using 10 fingers, but if you can get used to using 6 you may find the keyboard to be more pleasant than the virtual keyboards you get on most phones.
Other features include a 52 Whr battery, 802.11ac WiFi, and Qualcomm’s X16 Gigabit LTE modem. You’ll need to supply a SIM card to connect to LTE networks, and you may end up paying extra for data, depending on your wireless plan, (although Sprint, at least, is offering Windows 10 on ARM users some free data through the end of the year, and some carriers, like Project Fi, offer data-only SIM cards that tap into your existing plan for no additional fee… other than charges for any additional data you may use).
“Across the board for all of the optic systems that we have, a lack of visual accessibility is primarily why we lean heavily on computed tomography. With the optic systems, there are just certain features that are not able to be captured. So, for the green laser, it’s much more about creating a surface profile on larger flat objects like door panels—features that don’t have deep cavities or holes that would require measuring.”

With the Surface Go’s relatively low price versus the rest of the Surface Pro line and its very portable nature, the education market is one of the obvious fits. Classrooms have taken to chromebooks and iPads in droves as affordable options to hand out to students, though I’ve personally been a bit skeptical of proposed scenarios in which schools rush to buy swaths of these devices without clear usage-case clarity. You can certainly find apps on either Google Play or Apple’s App Store that can be used in the classroom, but functionality is limited.
In terms of extras, Unihertz also includes a Cell Broadcast app for checking emergency alerts in the user’s immediate vicinity and an SOS app for setting emergency contacts and quickly sending out emergency calls, messages, or ‘SOS’ including location data. Similarly, a TrackBack application is installed out-of-the-box that enables accurate tracking of where a user has traveled and how far. That would be useful in emergency situations as well as tracking distance for comparison with the included pedometer app. Zello is included for walkie-talkie functions as well as an FM radio and the former of those is initially linked to the above-mentioned PTT button. Last but not least the Atom includes a ‘Toolbox’ that contains various useful DIY and measurement apps. Of course, a flashlight, compass, alarm, and camera-based magnifier are part of that package. But there’s also a sound measurement app to gauge the level of noise in a given environment, a bubble level, a height measurement tool, a picture hanging level, a digital plumb bob, and a protractor. Finally, the camera can be used as a heart monitor in a pinch and the app for that is included in the Toolbox.
Yes, back in the day, YOUR Contacts could be saved to YOUR PC, and not on Goooogggggles cloud. (It really tees me off that Ggl has several Contacts folders for me to access from various gmail accounts and such. It lets them know who my Contacts are (birthdates, spouses, addresses, emails, phone numbers et al) and cross correlate them with Contacts they have from other people’s accounts.
A universal port under the Osmo Pocket’s touchscreen allows users to connect their mobile devices. They can then use the new DJI Mimo app to view the live feed on a bigger screen and take advantage of more intelligent features and recording modes, which include:
The Osmo Pocket looks like another compelling product from DJI. The tiny, compact form, camera quality, intelligent features and creative potential make it a steal at $349. The folks at GoPro must be hoping this doesn’t turn into another case of bad karma, particularly as the camera company’s core products are (more expensive) smart action cameras just like this one.
