Judging by the Surface Go announcement, WoA’s future is really up in the air. There was no reason not to make the Surface Go a WoA device, and yet, despite Intel’s lack of proper mobile chipsets now, Microsoft still opted to go Intel’s Pentium line for the tablet even for the LTE version of the Surface Go despite Qualcomm SoC’s having obvious advantages in that area. Given Microsoft’s track record with Windows Phone, Zune, Groove, Windows RT, and so on, it’s hard not to question Microsoft’s commitment to WoA. High priced WoA devices are not going to attract consumers much like how the Xbox One had a slow start due in part to the pricing differences with the PS4. And opting to make your own 1st party reference device (as was the original purpose of the Surface line) not a WoA device speaks volumes. The last time this happened was… Read more »
As mentioned above, ease of use is a major factor in the selection of an insulin delivery device. Patients no longer need to self-administer numerous daily finger stick tests to monitor their blood glucose levels. Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) that produce dynamically-updated readings are now widely available, and many of these can connect to mobile devices, obsoleting the need for a handheld monitor.

Since the 1950s, lasers have done a fine job scanning one-dimensional bar codes. But, that’s about all they can do. Bryan Sellars, national product manager of presence detection for SICK, says an accelerating migration toward image capture and vision-based bar code reading offers significantly greater functionality. Concurrently, greater adoption of two-dimensional (2D) bar codes, which can encode more information in a smaller printed area and do not require consistent orientation, is underway.

If you’re looking for an entry-level Windows on ARM computer in mid-2018, the Asus NovaGo is probably your best option. Priced at $699 or less, it’s the most affordable Windows 10 computer with an ARM chip.
A downside to this capability is that the USB Type-C OTG port is covered by a rubber gasket that must be pulled out every time you need to charge. That’s slightly irritating, but the decent battery life of this device at least reduces the number of times a week you’ll need to pop that plug.
The device comes in black and black with red color variants, while it sports two cameras on the back. Below those two cameras, which are vertically-aligned, you will notice an LED flash, and a fingerprint scanner right below it. The phone’s bezels are not too thick, especially considering this is a rugged smartphone, while the device’s physical keys are all located on the right-hand side of the device. The phone features a 6.2-inch fullHD+ (2246 x 1080) display (with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 protection), 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage (expandable up to 256GB via a microSD card). The device is fueled by MediaTek’s Helio P60 64-bit octa-core processor, while a 5,000mAh battery is also a part of the package, and it supports 18W fast charging. In addition to that, you also have wireless charging at your disposal here, 10W Qi wireless charging.

With the Surface Go’s relatively low price versus the rest of the Surface Pro line and its very portable nature, the education market is one of the obvious fits. Classrooms have taken to chromebooks and iPads in droves as affordable options to hand out to students, though I’ve personally been a bit skeptical of proposed scenarios in which schools rush to buy swaths of these devices without clear usage-case clarity. You can certainly find apps on either Google Play or Apple’s App Store that can be used in the classroom, but functionality is limited.
UPSNav works with ORION to reduce the number of miles driven on targeted routes. ORION plus UPSNav saves the company fuel and enables drivers to complete their routes faster. UPS launched UPSNav as a pilot this fall, rolling it out to about 5,000 U.S.-based drivers and some in Canada. UPS decided to expand the use of UPSNav more broadly after the successful pilot. Drivers on lower-density suburban and rural routes saw the most improvement. The tool was especially useful for drivers who were new to their routes, but every driver saw the benefits.
Little did I know, while delivering that drug-test sample, that this most basic of human needs—relieving oneself—would emerge as one of the more pressing challenges faced by all “delivery associates,” especially those of us crowding 60. An honest recounting of this job must include my sometimes frantic searches for a place to answer nature’s call.
