There was a time, back in the 1990s, when a PDA, or Personal Digital Assistant, was the height of mobile computing sophistication. These little hand-held touch-screen devices had no Internet connection, but had preloaded software to manage such things as your calendar and your contacts. [Brtnst] was introduced to PDAs through a Palm IIIc and fell in love with the idea, but became disillusioned with the Palm for its closed nature and lack of available software a couple of decades later.

A number of competing insulin delivery companies have either developed their own CGMs, as in the case of Medtronic (NYSE:MDT), or have partnered with CGM makers such as Dexcom (NASDAQ:DXCM) to integrate their pumps. Although I have to agree that Android is not ideal for this form-factor, and linux support seems to be an afterthought with XFCE here. But I imagine the hacker community who would use this could come up with a better distro in no time.

Overall, given the cost of this phone, the features present are above and beyond what we’d expect, and make for a generally serviceable device that should have a decent lifespan if not flagrantly abused.

In our trials with the device, docking was instant, though the modestly powered device demonstrated some lag pushing images and 3D models to such a high-resolution screen. Still, it’s a very handy feature to have, and simpler tasks and display operations operate just fine. Your basic static presentation will present no problems.

That brings us to a key point: the Windows 10 versions that will be deployed on Surface Go. With commercial versions of the Surface Go, Microsoft will be shipping Windows 10 Pro, with the option to lock the version to Windows 10 S, the version of Windows 10 that works solely with Windows Store apps and Windows 10 S-compatible accessories. Versions of the Surface Go sold to consumers, on the other hand, will ship with Windows 10 S active by default.

The tablet is gorgeous. On paper, 15 inches sounds like a giant monster of a tablet, but I found it perfect for holding an article or flicking around social media during short breaks, before locking it back into the keyboard with a satisfying click to return to work. The size also means the Surface Book is big enough to comfortably view two apps side-by-side should you need to.
