That includes your choice of the latest eighth-generation quad-core Intel i5 or i7 processor, 8 or 16GB of RAM and plenty of storage.

Like many of Nintendo’s products, the Game Boy’s simple exterior and interface belied a great versatility. The little device was capable of doing far more than just play games. Part of this was due to Game Boy designer Gunpei Yokoi’s philosophy of "Lateral Thinking with Withered Technology", or using old technology in new ways. Because the Game Boy was built off of somewhat outdated tech, it was adaptable in ways more advanced devices couldn’t be. This led to a proliferation of oddball accessories, modifications, and attempts to turn the humble Game Boy into something resembling a modern smartphone.

Other features that are missing from Windows 10 S include support for Bitlocker encryption, Device Guard, Remote Desktop, and Group Policy Management. Power users and enterprise customers may miss those features. I suspect most home users won’t even notice they’re missing.
Few gaming devices can be said to have created an entire separate sector of the industry. Nintendo’s Game Boy is one of those few. It and its descendant devices reigned on the throne of handheld gaming basically until the rise of mobile games. But even with that competition, the Game Boy still holds a special place in the world of gaming and in the memories of many gamers. That grey brick, along with its pocket-sized and color capable variations, filled more long car rides and boring afternoons out than we could count. Even if we only used it to play Pokémon Red & Blue.
Windows 7 ESU, said Spataro, will be available only for PCs running Windows 7 Professional or Windows 7 Enterprise, and then only if those operating systems were obtained via a volume licensing deal. Discounts will be offered to customers who also have Software Assurance plans in place for Windows or have subscriptions to Windows 10 Enterprise or Windows 10 Education, such as the pricy Microsoft 365 subscription.
Microsoft sent along the cobalt Alcantara keyboard with our review unit, which looks pretty classy, but will set your wallet back. Combined with our pricier version of the Go, the cost of this review unit adds up to $678, and that’s before you get the optional Surface Pen ($99). Factoring in the Pen, the price point begins to spin out of the affordability-minded zone, which both makes the Go less of a bargain and changes which devices it’s competing with. Many 2-in-1 alternatives include the keyboard in the cost, so make sure to factor that in when shopping for the Surface Go.
Google Glass teased an interesting future, but failed to deliver on its promise. Today, Toshiba picks up where Glass left off, with a pair of Augmented Reality (AR) glasses powered by a mini Windows 10 PC.
Tough devices fit perfectly with the Caterpillar brand which has long been associated with machinery and construction. While Sprint has been selling rugged phones for a while now, they have traditionally lacked strong branding.
However, the first publicly available device based on this technology is likely to have a far smaller scope than Bones’ Tricorder. Basil Leaf Technologies is working on creating a monitoring device for a single disease state, congestive cardiac failure (CCF), that a patient could keep with them at home to help monitor the progress of their condition. The aim is for a person with CCF, a chronic condition, to interact with the device a couple of times a day, and that information to be sent back to a medical professional to review. With such longitudinal monitoring, a doctor can monitor the patient’s progress regularly without having to ask them to take time out of their days to come in for regular check-ups.
My regular computer is a mid 2014 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro, with a 2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of solid state storage and an Intel Iris integrated graphics system. I bought it brand new soon after its launch, it’s served me well and I have no current plans to upgrade. For the purposes of this story, Microsoft supplied me with a 2017 Surface Book 2 with 15-inch screen, quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of solid state storage and an Nvidia GTX 1060 graphics processor. It’s safe to say the Surface Book blows my old machine out of the water on specs, but so would a new MacBook Pro, so for this article I’m going to focus on the other aspects.
