However, the first publicly available device based on this technology is likely to have a far smaller scope than Bones’ Tricorder. Basil Leaf Technologies is working on creating a monitoring device for a single disease state, congestive cardiac failure (CCF), that a patient could keep with them at home to help monitor the progress of their condition. The aim is for a person with CCF, a chronic condition, to interact with the device a couple of times a day, and that information to be sent back to a medical professional to review. With such longitudinal monitoring, a doctor can monitor the patient’s progress regularly without having to ask them to take time out of their days to come in for regular check-ups.
Our real-world testing lined up with those results fairly well and the life of the battery could definitely be improved by turning on power-saving features or activating auto-brightness settings. Charging times were similarly noted as being within just a few minutes off from the claimed figures whether charging wirelessly or via cable. This is one of the least expensive devices ever made that ships with wireless fast charging. In fact, the feature is not often seen outside of flagships or upper-mid-range smartphones. So it is definitely noteworthy that OUKITEL chose to include it here. On the performance side, all except the most demanding games seem to run without any latency or drag on the hardware. Whether the WP1 can handle a given title or intensive app is going to depend on how the app was coded to run — whether it relies more heavily on the GPU or CPU and how the code is written. With that said, it appears as though this particular device will run the majority of apps without incident and we didn’t notice any input delay or problems with the underlying firmware or its UI.
This year Microsoft took another major step, launching Windows 10 on ARM. PC makers are now able to ship notebooks and tablets with the same chips that help give smartphones long battery life, even longer standby time, and an the ability to stay connected to the internet via WiFi or LTE at all times.
I wasn’t expecting much, but the Unihertz Atom camera went even lower than my underestimations. Images seem washed off, colors are dull, exposure is always off, there is often weird artifacting in direct light, and detail is lacking.

The X1 Tablet has an IR-based facial recognition system that’s just as good as that on Microsoft’s Surface line. It recognises you from the lock-screen and automatically logs you in, making login seamless.
Older games and graphics apps may not work. Windows 10 on ARM supports DirectX 9, DirectX 10, DirectX 11, and DirectX 12, but apps/games that target older versions will not work. Apps that require hardware-accelerated OpenGL will also not work.
Contrary to popular belief, the Game Boy was not Nintendo’s first handheld. They actually had a whole series of them called Game & Watch. Future Game Boy creator Gunpei Yokoi was inspired by watching a businessman play on a calculator on the train.
Microsoft sent along the cobalt Alcantara keyboard with our review unit, which looks pretty classy, but will set your wallet back. Combined with our pricier version of the Go, the cost of this review unit adds up to $678, and that’s before you get the optional Surface Pen ($99). Factoring in the Pen, the price point begins to spin out of the affordability-minded zone, which both makes the Go less of a bargain and changes which devices it’s competing with. Many 2-in-1 alternatives include the keyboard in the cost, so make sure to factor that in when shopping for the Surface Go.
I saw this article and straight up flashed back to my Helio. Picked it up on clearance from the shop I worked at the time, and it was a fairly decent little machine. I liked the handwriting recognition a lot more than Graffiti, it came in handy when I would occasionally lose my voice completely as I’d write on it in order to communicate with customers. There were a few apps and such ported, as well as several text adventure engines, most here: https://www.capitalware.com/helio_latest.html Some other resource links, a lot dead: https://helio.coolbegin.com/
