Older games and graphics apps may not work. Windows 10 on ARM supports DirectX 9, DirectX 10, DirectX 11, and DirectX 12, but apps/games that target older versions will not work. Apps that require hardware-accelerated OpenGL will also not work.
On the hardware side, the device could also do with some refinement. There’s a weird wedge-shaped gap when the lid is closed due to the metal hinge, and while I don’t really care about it, practically everyone else I’ve shown the laptop to has pointed it out unprompted. The potential for bric-a-brac in my rucksack to mess up the screen means I’d have to keep it in a separate case. This is pretty much the only gripe I have on the hardware side, though, and that’s far better than having a dust-allergic keyboard.
My regular computer is a mid 2014 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro, with a 2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of solid state storage and an Intel Iris integrated graphics system. I bought it brand new soon after its launch, it’s served me well and I have no current plans to upgrade. For the purposes of this story, Microsoft supplied me with a 2017 Surface Book 2 with 15-inch screen, quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of solid state storage and an Nvidia GTX 1060 graphics processor. It’s safe to say the Surface Book blows my old machine out of the water on specs, but so would a new MacBook Pro, so for this article I’m going to focus on the other aspects.

Before sending me out alone, the company assigned me two “ride-alongs” with its top driver, the legendary Marco, who went out with 280 packages the second day I rode shotgun with him, took his full lunch break, did not roll through a single stop sign, and was finished by sundown. Marco taught me to keep a lookout not just for porch pirates—lowlifes who swoop in behind us to pilfer packages—but also for portable toilets. In neighborhoods miles from a service station or any public lavatory, a Port-a-John, or a Honey Pot, can be no less welcome than an oasis in the desert. (The afternoon I leapt from the van and beelined to a Honey Pot, only to find it padlocked, was the closest I’ve come to crying on the job.)
I just loved the snap-open “tricorder” feel of the design, even if it wasn’t terribly user-friendly. The screen got broken in a move or I’d still play Lemmings on it now and then.
This is the kind of product that I wasn’t willing to go into a crowdfunding, because I don’t want to have a 1st-gen device, I’d like to wait to hear what complaints people have, and see if they are addressed in a 2nd-gen. However the Post-crowdfunding price is just too high for me. I guess I won’t be getting one.
Despite being the premier handheld, many people wanted to play their Game Boy games on their TVs. Nintendo was happy to oblige. They released the Super Game Boy peripheral in 1994 to let people play Game Boy games on their Super Nintendos.

They plated an original Gameboy in 18 karat gold and placed a border of diamonds around the screen. In a testament to Nintendo’s quality, the Game Boy still worked after that. The blinged out Game Boy later sold at auction for US$25,000. Normal Game Boys are about $25 on eBay.
Speaking of phones, this thing has the kind of hardware you’d expect from a phone, not a notebook. It sports a 6 inch, 2160 x 1080 pixel display, a MediaTek Helio X27 deca-core processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
