To make imaging more user-friendly, the device leverages artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR). Typically, Sanchez says, it takes a lot of training to acquire a quality body image without much difficulty — but takes only minutes with iQ.
The rise of robots is inevitable in healthcare, but for now, keeping it simple is just what the doctor ordered.
The differentiation starts in the design. Like Xiaomi’s Black Shark unique back cover touch design, Blackview BV5500’s best-selling points are of course its toughness and the unique design. It has a thinner ergonomic frame to make its grip more comfortable and easier to hold, while slimming it down compared to similar devices. For hardware, the BV5500 packs a 5.5-inch screen with 18:9 aspect ratio. There is a Corning Gorilla 3 protection on top, giving it some toughness. Its overall design is very small, and there is no shortage of fashion. In this way, it will also be loved by young men and women, not just outdoor workers. The aluminium frame is curved at the edges, making the device feel great to hold.
This SoC is outshone by the latest Snapdragon designs, but unless you must have the fastest possible phone, it’s more than enough power to drive this device.
After several iterations, Sanchez, Fife, and Chen found a way to integrate stacks of capacitive micromachined ultrasound transducers — basically, metal plates suspended between two electrodes — directly on a chip. (These devices function like crystal transducers.) From this, they created chips with roughly 9,000 transducer channels that, combined with electronics, could send out and receive sound waves and turn those waves into 3-D ultrasound images. Today, the computation power of each chip is extraordinary, Sanchez says: “Essentially, it has almost half a trillion operations per second behind it to swallow data to get ultrasound in and image out in real time.”
In his recent book, War with Russia, Stephen F. Cohen points out that political scientists are generally agreed that Putin could be called a “soft authoritarian” leader, but demonizing him as some combination of Stalin and Hitler is so totally unfounded that behind it must lie some extremely devious and dangerous agenda to relentlessly perpetuate uneasy relations with Russia. Perhaps it is just part of the fanatical attempt to discredit President Donald Trump and remove him from office. It has certainly made diplomacy with the Russian Federation much more difficult.
Microsoft sent along the cobalt Alcantara keyboard with our review unit, which looks pretty classy, but will set your wallet back. Combined with our pricier version of the Go, the cost of this review unit adds up to $678, and that’s before you get the optional Surface Pen ($99). Factoring in the Pen, the price point begins to spin out of the affordability-minded zone, which both makes the Go less of a bargain and changes which devices it’s competing with. Many 2-in-1 alternatives include the keyboard in the cost, so make sure to factor that in when shopping for the Surface Go.
On the connectivity side of the equation, things are much more solid. All of the built-in radios perform as well as can be expected but it is worth pointing out that there’s no NFC connectivity with this smartphone. On the other hand, we also weren’t able to test a 2G, 3G, or 4G connection due to incompatibility with our test carrier in the US. The quality of the earpiece and speakerphone was tested using a call over Wi-Fi. Both audio devices and the microphone performed as well as nearly any other smartphone in any price bracket. But prospective buyers will want to check the bands below to ensure compatibility with their service provider before making a purchase.
The startup has developed a low-cost, handheld scanner, based in part on work done by co-founder Nevada Sanchez ’10, SM ’11, that generates clinical-quality ultrasounds on a smartphone. Ultrasounds are uploaded to the cloud, where any expert with permission can give second opinions or help analyze images.
Ah, I always hankered for a portable device and finally took the plunge with a Tungsten T not long before feature phones became a thing (smart phones were still a pipe-dream) – I still resisted as long as I could (I even bought an official Sonic the Hedgehog game for it). I tried to justify the purchase by getting one of the slot-in digital cameras for it (which also rapidly became obsoleted)
