This proved problematic when my wife and I decided to refinance our home. Although Gina, an attorney, earns plenty, we needed a bit more income to persuade lenders to work with us. It quickly became clear that for us to qualify, I would need more than occasional gigs as a freelance writer; I would need a steady job with a W-2. Thus did I find myself, after replying to an indeed.com posting for Amazon delivery drivers, emerging from an office-park lavatory a few miles from my house, feigning nonchalance as I handed a cup of urine to the attendant and bid him good day.

Although it was only 4 p.m., I called it quits. Some days in the delivery biz, the bear eats you. But I got some perspective back at the lot, where a fellow driver named Shawn told me about the low point of his day. A woman had challenged him as he emerged from her side yard—where he’d been dropping a package, as instructed. “What are you stealing?”

I can’t remember what they called it. I thought it was Helio or Helios but all that gets me is the old V-Tech Helio that was sort of a Handspring Visor knockoff with a 75Mhz CPU and more RAM/storage, but running VT-OS and also supposedly able to run some kind of Linux.

Remember Palm, the company behind those handheld PDAs (no, not that kind of PDA) that were so prevalent in the 90s? It’s back Monday with something truly weird: The Palm, a tiny Android-powered smartphone that’s meant to supplement, not replace, your current handset. You can’t even buy the Palm on its own — it’s available only as an add-on to your existing smartphone plan, and, at least for now, only on Verizon.

Ulefone this week introduced its new high-end shockproof and waterproof smartphone. Dubbed the Rugger Armor 6, the ruggized phone combines an IP68-rated chassis, a large display, multiple special-purpose sensors, and a high-performance SoC. Clearly keying in on a specific market segment for the new phone, the Armor 6 will also ship with multiple pre-loaded applications that are intended to be useful during traveling or just in various harsh locales.

Judging by the Surface Go announcement, WoA’s future is really up in the air. There was no reason not to make the Surface Go a WoA device, and yet, despite Intel’s lack of proper mobile chipsets now, Microsoft still opted to go Intel’s Pentium line for the tablet even for the LTE version of the Surface Go despite Qualcomm SoC’s having obvious advantages in that area. Given Microsoft’s track record with Windows Phone, Zune, Groove, Windows RT, and so on, it’s hard not to question Microsoft’s commitment to WoA. High priced WoA devices are not going to attract consumers much like how the Xbox One had a slow start due in part to the pricing differences with the PS4. And opting to make your own 1st party reference device (as was the original purpose of the Surface line) not a WoA device speaks volumes. The last time this happened was… Read more »

Other features that are missing from Windows 10 S include support for Bitlocker encryption, Device Guard, Remote Desktop, and Group Policy Management. Power users and enterprise customers may miss those features. I suspect most home users won’t even notice they’re missing.

This smartphone has been tested to MIL-STD-810G standard, and comes with an IP68 rating and 1.5 meter drop resistance. Finally, this Android device looks no different to many rugged phones available in the market.
