With the introduction of iOS 12 at WWDC 2018, Apple has included a new feature which allows you to scan QR code on iPhone in a hassle-free manner.

“We see this as a workhorse, rugged smartphone that sits right in the middle of our line up at a mass market price point,” John Tudhope, Director Device Portfolio Strategy for Sprint, told Digital Trends. “We think it has great appeal for the small business and enterprise segments, as well as for consumers who want something rugged at an affordable price.”

“With image-based scanning you know something went wrong, and you also know why,” he says. “You can look at an image and see the label wasn’t there, or folded back on itself, or that ink is low. You want to know that so you can quickly make the proper adjustments. As we continue down the path of Industry 4.0, I think we will see more desire to get that information.”

The battery life, camera, screen and storage capacity are all very good, ticking many of the boxes that people are most concerned about.

That said, Microsoft Office is a Store app. So is Adobe Photoshop Elements. So there are certainly options for editing documents or images. I’d just need to switch to new apps rather than using the ones I typically use on other Windows or Linux computers… just like I have to use the Edge web browser instead of Chrome when running Windows 10 S.

The system also has enough flexibility to allow for adjustments, the company says. UPSNav uses the UPS data infrastructure and proprietary ORION maps, but also allows drivers and other UPS staff to quickly correct or update maps if a delivery or pickup point changes.

Boatner adds that the adoption of user-friendly consumer products, whether Android or Apple’s iOS, has helped streamline customers’ OS strategies. He describes an OS-agnostic terminal platform that can help unify, for example, the Android devices companies use in their warehouses with the iOS devices they use in the field.

Tough devices fit perfectly with the Caterpillar brand which has long been associated with machinery and construction. While Sprint has been selling rugged phones for a while now, they have traditionally lacked strong branding.
