One of the first companies to make a serious attempt at creating a Tricorder was Scanadu, which released a device called the Scout in 2015.The Scout could measure a handful of vital signs — blood pressure, heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, and temperature — by being held up to a patient’s forehead. It’s not quite the Tricorder’s no-touch technique, and had no diagnostic capabilities, but it was arguably further towards such a device than any hardware before it. After raising $1.7m on Indiegogo, and several million dollars more from investors, the Scout eventually went on sale. However, the company had released it under the banner of a "research device for investigational use". When it subsequently failed to win FDA approval — for unspecified reasons — the research effectively came to an end, and devices were bricked, leaving buyers furious.

The designers of the Armor 3 went with a slightly unusual button layout with the volume rocker on the left, and the only button on the right-hand side is the power. This choice allows the fingerprint reader to be on the right-hand edge where a right-handed person can easily use their thumb to unlock the device.

The device can also be used to measure if a user has gone too heavy on the cologne, because it measures the intensity of aroma rather than a specific smell. 

To make imaging more user-friendly, the device leverages artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR). Typically, Sanchez says, it takes a lot of training to acquire a quality body image without much difficulty — but takes only minutes with iQ.

The display on this handset is, as with almost every aspect, about average. That is to say that it is very responsive and doesn’t show much latency. The screen resolution seems a bit low on paper but concerns about that don’t seem to bear out in the real world. While it isn’t nearly as nice as some of the panels found on much more expensive devices, it’s serviceable and should be good enough for the vast majority of users. As with the back panel, at least with the in-the-box screen protector installed, that does happen to get dirty quickly and smudge easily but nothing about that should really be a deal-breaker in this price range. With a decent glass or well-made film screen protector, that issue should disappear immediately. Brightness is another plus since, although the figures aren’t listed by OUKITEL, the panel seems more than bright enough to use on even very bright sunny days without problems.

That said, I understand why the first crop of Windows 10 on ARM devices cost as much as they do. The Snapdragon 835 processor is a premium component designed for high-end smartphones. 4G LTE support is usually only offered on premium notebooks. Fingerprint sensors aren’t exactly standard on entry-level laptops either. Nor are full HD touchscreen displays (even if they should be).

The sign-in mechanism is essentially an alternative to passwords and is widely considered to be a more user friendly, secure and reliable method to access critical devices, services and data than traditional logins using passwords.
