Google Glass teased an interesting future, but failed to deliver on its promise. Today, Toshiba picks up where Glass left off, with a pair of Augmented Reality (AR) glasses powered by a mini Windows 10 PC.

That said, it you do find yourself with an Asus NovaGo TP370QL, it’s not exactly a useless computer. There’s still a lot you can do with it, even if you never bother switching from Windows 10 S to Windows 10 Pro.

The barcode scanning case is positioned as a purely retail solution from HP, and I can see it being a useful addition to both the front and back of a store. While it’s not likely to replace dedicated cash registers anytime soon, it could be invaluable for the sort of roving retail employees that help customers while they’re shopping.

The third-generation Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Tablet starts at £1,480 with a Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage and keyboard and tops out at £2,422 with all the options.

“Windows Hello solves a few problems: security and inconvenience,” said Patrick Moorhead, president and principal analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy. “Traditional passwords are unsafe as they are hard to remember, and therefore people either choose easy-to-guess passwords or write down their passwords.”

Judging by the Surface Go announcement, WoA’s future is really up in the air. There was no reason not to make the Surface Go a WoA device, and yet, despite Intel’s lack of proper mobile chipsets now, Microsoft still opted to go Intel’s Pentium line for the tablet even for the LTE version of the Surface Go despite Qualcomm SoC’s having obvious advantages in that area. Given Microsoft’s track record with Windows Phone, Zune, Groove, Windows RT, and so on, it’s hard not to question Microsoft’s commitment to WoA. High priced WoA devices are not going to attract consumers much like how the Xbox One had a slow start due in part to the pricing differences with the PS4. While I wouldn’t make a Surface Go my primary machine for graphical/video creativity work or demanding tasks—Microsoft acknowledges this is not really its place—it’s still a fine choice for a lean, mean travel companion. The Go fills a niche, is nicely built, and is inexpensive enough to justify its role. Power seekers, though, looking for a main-squeeze detachable 2-in-1 should continue to look at the Editors’ Choice-winning Surface Pro first.

It looks kind of like a toy, but it doesn’t feel like one. The rubberized plastic, textured back, and shock-absorbing corners are comfortable to hold and feel secure. It isn’t even a bit slippery! I wasn’t as worried about dropping it (never did), and its IP68 certification means exposing it to the elements shouldn’t be an issue either.
