I think The Third Wave kind of hit on that since technology would make it easier to have customized products, while a side-effect is reducing resale value.

The ThinkPad X1 Tablet proves that Lenovo can make a great detachable 2-in-1 Windows 10 tablet computer. It’s not cheap, but offers similar or better specifications than its chief rival the Microsoft Surface Pro, including the much-needed modern port selection of Thunderbolt 3.

A downside to this capability is that the USB Type-C OTG port is covered by a rubber gasket that must be pulled out every time you need to charge. That’s slightly irritating, but the decent battery life of this device at least reduces the number of times a week you’ll need to pop that plug.

Insulet recently reported earnings for the third quarter of 2018. Revenue for Q3 came in at a record $151 million, representing an increase of 24% year-on-year. Operating income came in at $7 million, keeping the company on track for the first profitable year in its history. Gross margins have expanded to 67.5%, up 700 basis points year-on-year, an important factor of Insulet’s move towards profitability. Management has also provided guidance for growth for the fourth quarter, estimating revenue growth of between 22% and 26%.

More than any work device I’ve tried in years, the Surface Book induced moments of sheer delight. I’m no Picasso, but clicking the pen and squiggling on the open windows tapped into such a lovely childhood sense of wonder. Even if I don’t often need to draw on my screen as a journalist, sometimes you simply want want to, and don’t bother because it’s too difficult.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that there are Microsoft Store versions of some of my favorite apps.

The display on this handset is, as with almost every aspect, about average. That is to say that it is very responsive and doesn’t show much latency. The screen resolution seems a bit low on paper but concerns about that don’t seem to bear out in the real world. While it isn’t nearly as nice as some of the panels found on much more expensive devices, it’s serviceable and should be good enough for the vast majority of users. As with the back panel, at least with the in-the-box screen protector installed, that does happen to get dirty quickly and smudge easily but nothing about that should really be a deal-breaker in this price range. With a decent glass or well-made film screen protector, that issue should disappear immediately. Brightness is another plus since, although the figures aren’t listed by OUKITEL, the panel seems more than bright enough to use on even very bright sunny days without problems.

It’s enough to get through most of a day’s work, but isn’t enough to leave the charger at home on intensive days. Thankfully as it uses USB Power Delivery to charge, any USB-C charger with sufficient wattage should work such as those shipped with other laptops or even multi-chargers putting out 30W or more.
