Microsoft has been quietly laying the groundwork to make Windows cool again for years. Windows 10, launched in 2015, is a strong culmination of everything the company has learned so far about how people want to use a computer. The Surface line of Microsoft-designed computers, aimed at showing the rest of the market the sort of groundbreaking designs that could run Windows, picked up steam with the launch of the Surface Book in 2016. And while Apple has steadfastly refused to merge the MacBook Pro and the iPad, Microsoft now offers a laptop that transforms into a tablet with the press of a keyboard button. The keyboard half houses batteries, ports, a touchpad and graphics processor, while the screen half houses the rest of the machine.
The Osmo Pocket is a tiny, three-axis stabilized camera that DJI says has been created for everyone. It’s certainly small for enough for anyone to carry around: It sits at just over 4 inches tall. The compact form makes the tiny camera – with a 1/2.3-inch sensor that records 12-megapixel photos and 4K video up to 60fps at 100Mbps – all the more impressive.
As far as connectivity is concerned, the handset supports 30 frequency bands as well as GPS/AGPS+GLONASS+Beidou positioning. As a result it can be used in 90% areas over the world, which is particularly useful for people who travel to various remote corners of the globe. As for local connectivity, the Armor 6 supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, as well as a USB 2.0 Type-C port for data transfers and charging of its 5000 mAh battery. Speaking of charging, the phone also supports 10 W Qi wireless charging.

IBM intros a wireless sales terminal WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.-International Business Machines Corp. introduced a handheld wireless system for retailers to use as a portable or docked point-of-sale workstation, as an inventory management device and a connection to networks including the Internet. The IBM 4612 Sure Point Mobile Computer is a pen-based system that allows retail employees access to information anywhere in the store. IBM said the system also can act as a sales assistant, providing information such as inventory status, product details, escorted shopping, suggested selling, special orders, delivery scheduling, stock inquiries, gift registry and clienteling. “We have taken the function and the power of a desktop computer and packed it into a small, rugged, hand-held terminal, designed to support the evolving needs of retailers,” said Ron O’Connor, vice president of retail and distribution solutions, IBM Distribution Industry. … Read more
As an Android phone, the Armor 3 is a decent performer and generally responsive. The Oreo operating system is mostly vanilla, although it has some bundled tools such as a flashlight, FM radio and a Toolbox application that has numerous functions which we’ve seen on other Android 8.1 installations.
If you want a tough phone for a beach holiday, skiing or trekking adventure, then this one might be a very prudent choice.
I mean, it’s a 3.1 pound fanless laptop, which is pretty nice. But for about the same price as an Asus NovGo, you can pick up a 2.8 pound Microsoft Surface laptop with a higher-resolution display, a faster Intel Core M3-7Y30 processor, a faster SSD, and significantly better all-around performance.
"Instead [of] going to the doctor who says, ‘Let me draw blood and in three days I’ll call you if there’s anything wrong,’ the doctor can look and say, ‘Oh, I just checked all your blood over this last year, and it looks like your kidneys are good, your liver is good, I don’t see any indication of oncologic cells, pretty good, thanks.’ … We want to have a Tricorder where Dr. McCoy will wave this thing and say, ‘Oh, you’re suffering from Valerian death fever.’ And he’d then give some shot in a person’s neck and they’d immediately get better. We won’t do the shots — our partners will do the shots. But we’re hoping to build the Tricorder," he told Medium at the time.
A downside to this capability is that the USB Type-C OTG port is covered by a rubber gasket that must be pulled out every time you need to charge. That’s slightly irritating, but the decent battery life of this device at least reduces the number of times a week you’ll need to pop that plug.
When you combine great battery life and an acceptable camera, the King Kong 3 represents remarkable value for money, and is a decent travel phone for many international destinations.
“Windows has been around a long time on mobile devices, but they really lost their focus along the way,” Nielsen said. “The marketplace still has some customers out there with lingering Windows devices. It’s dwindling, and there’s also a renewed focus on what the devices are being used for. Some issues are security-based, and security aspects are growing every year. The Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities were pretty significant, depending on what OS you’re running. There aren’t many workarounds left for older devices, and who knows when the next vulnerability might show up.”
