The user interface is identical to Windows 10 Home or Pro. The most important difference is that you can only install apps from the Microsoft Store. Among other things, that means you’re stuck with Microsoft’s Edge web browser instead Chrome or Firefox. But if you need software that’s not available from the Store, you can switch to Windows 10 Pro. Just bear in mind that the Asus NovaGo will have to rely on emulation to run x86 apps, so while switching allows you to run software that wouldn’t otherwise be available, some apps may run slower than others… and some may still not run at all.

Sleds can leverage the latest processing speed, security, cameras and screen resolutions of consumer devices to improve the worker experience. But, importantly, they don’t need to tinker with the foundational software that drives processes. For example, Boatner says the market leaders for terminal emulation are adopting a strategy of enabling the automatic conversion from the green screen to a more modern, app-based, touchscreen interface.

One of the first companies to make a serious attempt at creating a Tricorder was Scanadu, which released a device called the Scout in 2015.The Scout could measure a handful of vital signs — blood pressure, heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, and temperature — by being held up to a patient’s forehead. It’s not quite the Tricorder’s no-touch technique, and had no diagnostic capabilities, but it was arguably further towards such a device than any hardware before it. After raising $1.7m on Indiegogo, and several million dollars more from investors, the Scout eventually went on sale. However, the company had released it under the banner of a "research device for investigational use". When it subsequently failed to win FDA approval — for unspecified reasons — the research effectively came to an end, and devices were bricked, leaving buyers furious.

As for that processor, the Pentium Gold 4415Y is a very low-wattage mobile CPU. (It has a 6-watt thermal design power rating.) It’s a seventh-generation chip with two cores but support for four processing threads via Hyper-Threading. A CPU that tops out at this level is more or less necessary given the target price point and limited space for thermals—the Surface Go’s design is fanless. All of this promises to add up to a modestly speedy handheld system—by no means a powerhouse, but a little machine well more capable than your typical extreme-budget 2-in-1, especially if you opt for the model with the "true" SSD versus the pokier eMMC flash memory. The Pentium Gold, versus the Atoms and Celerons common in budget chromebooks and like systems in this price range, should help.

Insulet recently reported earnings for the third quarter of 2018. Revenue for Q3 came in at a record $151 million, representing an increase of 24% year-on-year. Operating income came in at $7 million, keeping the company on track for the first profitable year in its history. Gross margins have expanded to 67.5%, up 700 basis points year-on-year, an important factor of Insulet’s move towards profitability.
