Contrary to popular belief, the Game Boy was not Nintendo’s first handheld. They actually had a whole series of them called Game & Watch. Future Game Boy creator Gunpei Yokoi was inspired by watching a businessman play on a calculator on the train.

Windows on Arm is interesting, especially where their hybrid dynarec + native dll X86 emulation is concerned. I’d be interested in seeing windows 10 arm or IoT on this device as well at a later date. Not sure what performance would look like for non native binaries, but a triple boot in the pocket would be pretty cool. GPD pocket is ok, Im really not sure where the X27 sits against the 8750. It would be nice to see some benches on both sides.

The Game Boy Camera is one of the handheld’s more notorious accessories, but it was actually ahead of its time. Back in 1999, it held the world record for the world’s smallest digital camera. You could also claim that it invented the selfie, allowing users to snap pics of themselves and then customize them with silly hats and glasses. So it also invented the Snapchat filter. While the picture quality left something to be desired, some artists liked its abstract grainy quality. Musician Neil Young even used a Game Boy Camera photo for the cover of his album Silver & Gold.

What need is there for a barcode scanner on a modern smartphone that already has its own 16MP camera? I also get the sense I’d have gotten even more out of the Surface Book had I not been using Mac for 10 years. I’m constantly hitting “alt” to copy and paste, and my passwords are all locked in iCloud and I need to call them up all over again.
