Handhelds were seen as something of a novelty back in the early 90s. There hadn’t been a dedicated handheld console like the Game Boy before. Most handhelds were simple and cheap, only playing a single game. Nintendo wanted to make the transition as seamless as possible. For that reason, the Game Boy has the same control scheme as the NES controller. A D-pad, an A & B button, and start and select buttons. The idea was that veteran NES Players could pick up Game Boys and play no problem. Given the Game Boy’s success, I’d say it worked.

Applications for the Spider are similar to the Eva, just for smaller components with tighter tolerances. “The field of view of the Spider is a lot smaller than the field of view of the Eva. So you’re also going to have size limitations.”
